Colne workers choose North West Air Ambulance for fundraising

REPORT FROM LANCASHIRE TELEGRAPH

PENDLE’S largest retailer has launched a campaign to raise thousands of pounds for the North West Air Ambulance (NWAA).

Bosses at Boundary Mill have revealed that the firm’s chosen charity for this year is the NWAA, which flies life-saving missions throughout the region.

Last year, the Colne-based retailer raised an impressive £100,000 for Pendleside Hospice – the most substantial corporate donation the charity has ever received.

Staff at Boundary Mill watched presentations by three charities short-listed by the company and then voted for which one they would like to support.

Paula Taylor, the firm’s marketing manager, said: “Around 90 per cent of staff voted for the NWAA, which shows how impressive their presentation was. I think charities can be quite personal to people and the NWAA is something that everybody can appreciate.

“Nobody can possibly take any issue with what they do. The support from staff was overwhelming.”

The NWAA operates seven-days-a-week, 365 days-a-year.

It costs almost £4million a year to run.

Boundary Mill chiefs have set a target of raising £20,000 for the charity over the coming months.

Staff have already raised £4,000 through events including a relay race to tie in with the London Marathon at the weekend.

Plans for raffles, quizzes and a fun day are also in the pipeline. The fundraising campaign was launched at Blackpool Airport yesterday.

All around the North West…

It was a busy weekend for both aircraft and crews of the North West Air Ambulance. Both our Manchester and Blackpool aircrew attended a variety of incidents around the region. Whether it was a rugby injury in Marple or a car accident in Great Langdale, our specially trained crew were on hand to ensure the people of the North West received the fastest emergency treatment available.

Paul West, Clinical Manager, said: “The weekend can be a busy time for the emergency services as people follow leisure pursuits and travel to and from leisure destinations.

“We hope that people will not need our services but they know that we will provide care from the air if they get into difficulty.”
